June News Round Up

June has been a busy month for LJLA – read the highlights here…

Changes Inbound For Airport Parking

After the recent Consultative Committee meeting, which takes place on a quarterly basis, there have been some significant changes to the way that the Liverpool John Lennon Airport car parking works. The Consultative committee, a group of representatives from several public and private organisations that oversee alterations to the day-to-day functioning of the airport, have received feedback from the general public in regards to the on-site car parking services.

The price for the Express drop off area has been raised from £2 to £3, an increase which has so far not raised any eyebrows. In response to customers’ comments, the duration of time that cars are permitted to park up at the the Free Drop Off point has been doubled from 20 minutes to 40 minutes – this change has made LJLA one of a very few airports that offers any form of free car parking to their customers.

Friends of Liverpool Airport Open To New Members

The Friends of Liverpool Airport, an organisation created to promote interest and good favour towards the airport is currently looking for new members! In addition to representing the airport at certain events and conferences, the FoLA also offer their help on a volunteering basis to the airport. If you’ve ever flown through the airport or have simply come to visit it, you’ll have no doubt seen one of the 400 members assisting customers in some way.

LJLA is unique in being one of the few international airports that has an active group of people supporting them. Set up in 1980 at the suggestion of Honorary President Ken Dodd, the FoLA are always looking for more members to join their ranks. Membership costs as little as £10 for a year and includes a subscription to the group’s magazine (electronic only) that is released on a quarterly basis. Pay £25 and you can get a full year’s subscription to the full colour magazine, filled with stories and news all about the airport.

LJLA Has Vacancies!

Do you see yourself as being Liverpool John Lennon Airport material? The airport plays a crucial role in the local economy by providing employment for over 12,000 people, but they’re always looking to add more workers to their ranks. With the extensive plans for expansion that the Consultative Committee has put in place, leading us through to 2050, more employees are needed to ensure the swift and smooth running of the facility.

There are roles open for applicants of every ability at the moment. If you fancy working in the buzzing retail section of the airport then there are opportunities available as a Customer Sales Assistants. For those with the relevant experience, there are positions open higher up in the administrative echelons of the business; with vacancies in the Legal and the Environmental department. Wizz Air Take Off With 7th Destination from LJLA

Have you ever thought of taking a flight from Liverpool out to Poland? Well you’ll soon have an extra destination to choose from when flying out from LJLA. The Eastern European country has been growing in popularity as a holiday destination for the last few years and Wizz Airlines, one of the leading low-cost airlines flying out to Central Europe, has recently announced that it will be commencing a new route from Liverpool John Lennon Airport out to Lublin.

Starting this Summer, Wizz will be operating two flights a week out to the incredibly picturesque Lublin. LJLA customers already have the option of travelling to Warsaw, Gdansk and Katowice, but will now have to think twice before booking their flights. Lublin is Poland’s 9th largest city and is renowned for it’s neogothic architecture and religious buildings that date back as far as the 12th Century.

Andrew Cornish Resigns As CEO

Since joining Liverpool John Lennon Airport in September 2014, Andrew Cornish has made a huge amount of changes to the way the Airport has run. By improving facilities for passengers, as well as the customer service standards that LJLA has on offer, he has increased levels of customer satisfaction immeasurably. This marked improvement has seen customer survey results at an all time high (when compared to other UK and EU airports of a similar stature).

All good things however, must come to an end and, despite overseeing one of the airport’s most successful periods, Andrew has decided to step down from his position at Chief Executive Officer. We can only hope that the next person to replace him will be as capable as he was!

Master Plan Revealed For 2030 Through To 2050

There comes a time when all airports must reveal their intentions for the years to come. For Liverpool John Lennon Airport this means revealing to their investors (as well as the public at large) their intentions for development for the short and long term. In a recent announcement on their website, the developers of LJLA have put forward their plans for the next thirty years which include serving more destinations and ambitiously expanding to allow for 11 million passengers to travel through the airport by 2050, over double the number of passengers that currently travel using LJLA.

In addition to featuring more long haul flights and serving more destinations for the use of cargo flights, there’s good news for those of us that live near the airport. LJLA are hoping to provide jobs for 12,280 people come the year 2030, greatly helping the local economy and playing a key role in supporting the Northern Powerhouse. Although there will be more flight activity coming through the Airport than ever before, the Airport committee predict that there will actually be less noise pollution, as improvements in aircraft and flight paths come into effect.

That’s all the news we have for you this month, we’ll make sure to keep you updated as news is released.
